Another big pitching performance from J.J. Thompson was not enough for the Hopkinsville Tigers against Calloway County on the road Wednesday night. The Lakers scored the game’s only run off a Hopkinsville error in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 1-0 win over the Tigers.

The loss negated a big performance from Thompson, who pitched five innings, giving up no runs on just two hits. He struck out five and walked three.

8th grader Nick Cantrell stood out for the Lakers on the mound. Cantrell went the distance for Calloway County, giving up no runs on three hits, striking out seven, and walking none.

The game was scoreless into the bottom of the sixth. Conner Lockhart led off the inning with a single for Calloway County. Lockhart then stole second base. One out later, Lockhart scored the game-winning run on an infield error by the Tigers.

The Tigers’ three hits in the contest came from Thompson, Dylan Sweeney, and Christopher Medina.

Sweeney was tagged with the loss for the Tigers on the mound. He pitched one inning in relief, giving up one unearned run on one hit, striking out one, and walking none.

The Tigers (9-17) are set to finish out the regular season Saturday on the road at Graves County.
