Lady Wildcats Battle But Fall to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Senior Night

After falling in their season opener 12-2 on the road at Madisonville-North Hopkins, the Trigg County Lady Wildcats gave a good indication of the progress they have made this season under first year head coach Monty Todd Friday evening. A three-run second inning for the Lady Maroons was essentially the difference as Madisonville got past the Lady Wildcats 7-3 in a gritty effort from the young Trigg County team.

The Lady Wildcats, who started a 7th grader, three 8th graders, and a freshman, never let the Lady Maroons pull away. Outside of the second inning, Trigg County did not allow Madisonville more than one run in any inning.

Madisonville got on the board in the top of the second thanks to four hits in the inning. The big blow for the Lady Maroons was an RBI double from Kaydence Seargant. The Lady Maroons extended the lead in the top of the third using a triple, a walk, and a ground out to make it a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Wildcats broke into the scoring column in the bottom half of the third. After back-to-back singles from Kady Fuller and Emma West, MaKenna Hendricks singled to score courtesy runner EmmaLee Futrell to cut the lead to 4-1.

Madisonville scored again in the top of the 4th to make it 5-1. The Lady Wildcats came right back in the bottom half of the inning to score a run of their own. This time it was Rylee Hendricks with a double that scored Madilynn Smith to cut the lead to 5-2.

Brenna Sherman left the yard to left-center in the top of the 5th to push the lead back out to four runs at 6-2. The Lady Maroons added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to make it a 7-2 ballgame.

After a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh from Kady Fuller, Emma West singled to drive in courtesy runner EmmaLee Futrell to trim the lead to 7-3 with no outs in the inning. But hopes of a last minute rally were dashed by a double play that emptied the bases.

Trigg County was almost dead-even in terms of hits with the Lady Maroons. Trigg County had 10, while Madisonville had 11. The Lady Wildcats were charged with two errors in the game, while the Lady Maroons had none.

Kady Fuller went 3-4 in the game for Trigg County with a double. Emma West was 2-4 with an RBI. Rylee Hendricks was 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

In the circle, Avery Wade went the distance for Trigg County. She gave up seven runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking three.

Trigg County finishes the regular season at 12-15. They begin district tournament play Monday night at Crittenden County taking on Lyon County in the second game of the evening.
