Caldwell County will be sending a doubles team to the state tournament after opening day play at the Region Two Tennis Tournament Monday in Henderson County.
Rachel McClung and Keegan Miller, who began play as the two-seed, opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Webster County’s Maggie White and Brylee Whitledge. They advanced to the semifinals and punched their ticket to state with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lyon County’s Cassidy Chaptman and Katie Ladd.
Avery Ritchey and Ella Johnson won their opener 6-4, 6-3 over Webster County’s Cathryn Poston and Brookelyn Whitledge before falling to four seed Merrick Conkright and Cameron Chandler 6-0, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.
In singles play, Josie Shaffer beat Hopkinsville’s Brooke Stewart 6-2, 6-4 in the opener before falling to top seed Kiley DeMoss 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Meleah Greenfield lost her opener to two seed Sarah Welshans of Webster County 6-0, 6-0.
