Anna Crawford advanced to the semifinals of the Girls’ Second Region Tennis Tournament in Henderson Monday and will be the first Lyon County Lady Lyon in eight years to play in the state tournament.
Crawford, the three seed, had a tough time in her opener, falling behind Madisonville’s Macey Browning 2-0 in the first set. She closed with the final six points to win 6-2. She led 5-2 in the second set and held on for the 7-5 win.
There was no such drama in the quarterfinals where she defeated Union County’s Allison Deibler 6-0, 6-0.
Crawford is the first Lyon County player to advance to the semifinals since Hannah Rickard in 2015. She will play in the semifinals Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Josie Kaminski won her opening match, 6-0, 6-1 over Union County’s Aubrey Straub before falling to top seed Kiley DeMoss of Madisonville 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 16.
In doubles play, the team of Cassidy Chaptman and Katie Ladd outlasted Madisonville’s Danyel Reynolds and Emma Tagg 7-5, 6-3 in the Round of 16. They fell to two-seed Rachel McClung and Keegan Miller 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Jackie Hall and Alli Holt dropped their opener to Hopkins County Central’s Callie Mackey and Elissa Adams 6-2, 6-0.
