Trigg County will be making consecutive region baseball tournament appearances for the first time in five years following Monday’s 6-3 win over Crittenden County Monday in the 5th District semifinals.

The Wildcats made good use of five hits to back the pitching of Aaron DeSpain, who struck out 12 and allowed just one hit.

The senior right-hander improved to 5-3 and increased his team strikeout lead to 55 in 48 innings pitched.

Trigg County broke a scoreless in the third inning when Jacob Hunter singled, stole second, and came in to score on one of four Crittenden errors in the contest.

Trigg loaded the bases in the fourth inning and put a four-spot on the scoreboard. A Crittenden error plated two Wildcat runs and Haydon Reynolds followed with a two-run single.

Crittenden got back in the game in the top of the fifth on two Trigg errors and an RBI single by Tyler Belt – the only hit for the Rockets.

Chase Hampton gave Trigg an insurance run in the fifth inning with an RBI double – the only extra-base hit of the game by the Wildcats.

Trigg improved to 11-13 overall and 3-1 under interim coach Jay Breckel.

Trigg County moves into Tuesday’s championship game where they will play Lyon County for the second straight year. Lyon has beaten Trigg 10 consecutive times dating back to Savion Radford’s walk-off grand slam in the 2018 district semifinals.

Lyon County (19-9) beat Livingston Central 11-1 in the other semifinal.
