Eli Baker and Brady Belt combined to pitch a three-hitter to help Lyon County defeat Trigg County 7-1 and claim the school’s fourth straight district baseball title Tuesday.

Both the Lyons (20-9) and Wildcats (11-14) will move into this weekend’s region tournament.

Lyon County took command early with five runs in the first two innings. After a passed ball and wild pitch helped Lyon score its first run, Belt drove in two more with a single.

Trigg answered with a run in the second when Mac McCormick singled and Jacob Hunter later laid down a squeeze bunt to score courtesy runner Riley Thompson.

Lyon plated two runs in the second thanks to a wild pitch and RBI ground out by Peyton Carney.

The early runs allowed Lyon County head coach Ricky Baker to lift his son Eli after three innings and 54 pitches. He struck out four and the Trigg run he allowed was unearned.

John Bingham added a two-run double in the fourth inning for some Lyon County insurance. He and Belt finished with two RBI apiece with Belt adding two hits at the dish.

Belt also pitched the final four innings to get the win. He allowed just one hit over the course of 45 pitches.

McCormick had two of Trigg County’s three hits.

Lyon County joins Trigg County (2013-16) as the last two schools to win four straight district baseball titles.

The region tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday with two quarterfinal games at Hopkinsville High and two quarterfinal games at Henderson County. The semifinals and championship will move to Henderson Sunday and Monday.
