The Hopkinsville Tigers will have a new head baseball coach for the team’s scheduled final season in 2024. Hopkinsville High School Athletic Director Blake Leach announced Monday afternoon that Coach David Weber had stepped down from his position as head coach of the Tiger baseball team.

The resignation comes after Weber announced he is pursuing a coaching opportunity closer to his childhood home.

Upon the announcement, Hopkinsville High School Principal Cindy Campbell named Malcolm Tipler as the interim Tiger Baseball Coach. Tipler is a 2016 Chester County High School graduate and a 2021 grad of Austin Peay State University, where he played for the Governors as a five-year starter.

Tipler joined the Hopkinsville staff as an assistant coach last year.

During Weber’s two seasons at Hopkinsville, the Tigers were 22-34. The 2022 Tigers reached the 2nd Region tournament, losing 2-1 to Henderson County in the opening round.
