Trigg Sending Two Relay Teams to State Meet

The Trigg County Wildcats track and field team finished in fifth place at the Class 2A Region 1 Meet Monday at Calloway County High School and will send at least two relay teams to next week’s state meet in at least three events.

The top two finishers at the region automatically advance to the state meet, while the next ten best times/distances statewide also advance.

As a team, Trigg County scored 39 points to finish in fifth place, three points ahead of Caldwell County.

RELAYS

The 3200-meter relay team of Matthew Reeves, Brody Renfroe, David Cavanaugh, and Austin Cavanaugh finished in second place and qualified for the state meet by nipping Calloway County by two-tenths of a second at the finish in 8:43.51. It was the third-fastest time run in school history.

The 800-meter relay team is also headed to state after a second-place finish in 1:40.26.

The 1600-meter relay team was fifth in 3:49.05.

HURDLES

Braxton Hargrove finished in fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.41 seconds and was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.37.

MIDDLE DISTANCE

Austin Cavanaugh finished in third place in the 800-meter run in 2:05.26 and was fourth in the 1600-meter run in 4:51.85.

SPRINTS

Eighth-grader Brody Renfroe finished eighth in the 400-meter dash in 58.14 seconds.

Marlee Reeves finished ninth in the 100-meter dash (11.99) and Carter Shepherd was 10th (12.25). Shepherd was 12th in the 200 meters (25.35).

FIELD EVENTS

Matthew Reeves went 5-8 in the high jump to finish tied for second place and qualify for the state meet.

Marlee Reeves was 10th in the long jump (16-10.50).

Kell Norwood was 11th in the shot put (23-05.75) and 12th in the discus throw (60-02).
