Caldwell County’s Nick Adams and Grayden Miller just kept coming back in their opening round match Tuesday at the 2023 KHSAA Tennis State Championships presented by UK HealthCare.
After dropping the first set against South Laurel’s Daniel Campbell and Jacob Parman 6-3, the Caldwell seniors came back to take the second set 6-3 to force a deciding tiebreaker.
Down 3-1 early in the tiebreaker, the Tiger tandem came back to grab a 6-5 lead. But the South Laurel duo rallied to tie things at 8-8.
However, with the match on the line, Caldwell won the final two points to advance with a thrilling 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory in action at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville.
That put Adams and Miller into the round of 32.
But a tough matchup against the No. 1-seeded team of Kalei Christensen and Alex Yeager of Covington Catholic resulted in a 6-1, 6-0 setback, ending the Tigers’ stay at the state tournament.
Adams and Miller entered the state tournament as the 2nd Region champs while Christensen and Yeager won the 9th Region championship.
