A strong season for the Lyon doubles duo of Dalton Phillips and Jackson Crawford resulted in a trip to the 2023 KHSAA Tennis State Championships presented by UK HealthCare.
However, the Lyon tandem fell just short in an opening round match against Braeden Bell and Ethan Larkins of Madisonville-North Hopkins, dropping a 7-5, 6-4 decision Tuesday in a tight match at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville.
It was a rare matchup of 2nd Region schools in the first round at state.
Phillips, a senior, and Crawford, a junior, were the regional runners-up this season.
Bell and Larkins fell in the second round to top-eight seeded Zachary Thompson and Charlie Mooney of Lexington Lafayette 6-0, 6-0.
