The last time I talked to Jordan Anthony he was excited about what he thought the 2023 football season at Kentucky would be like and how talented he thought transfer quarterback Devin Leary was from what he had seen in workouts.

Anthony was a big-time, four-star recruit out of Mississippi noted for his blazing speed on the track where he was one of the nation’s best high school sprinters in 2022. The 5-9, 160-pound Anthony won the under-20 national track 200-meter dash in 20.34 seconds and broke the UK freshman in the 60-meter dash in 6.55 seconds (the second best time in program history).

Anthony was in the same position group as fellow freshmen Dane Key and Barion Brown last season when both emerged as Southeastern Conference stars. Incoming freshmen receivers Anthony Brown and Shamar Porter are being touted as future stars. Virginia Tech transfer Tayvion Robinson is back for a second season.

Anthony played in only two games last year after hoping to have a bigger role in his first season. His transfer is about a better football opportunity for him more so than track.

Anthony thanked UK coaches for giving him the opportunity to play in the SEC and thanked teammates for all they did for him last season in his social media post announcing his transfer. He also thanked “Big Blue Nation for the love and support” given to him.

“I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for me,” Anthony posted on social media.

I still remember one of the first interviews I did with him when he told me his long-term goal was to be the first athlete to win a Super Bowl championship ring and an Olympic gold medal.

Lofty goals for sure and here’s hoping maybe one day Anthony will be able to make that dream come true.

  1. I understand his situation and desire for more time, but a lot of WRs get banged up in the SEC and that is when other talented players step in and show their stuff. Not enough room on the field for all of UK’s talented receivers to be out there at the same time.
I have waited a long, long time to be able to say that about UK. UK is now having players leave the team that a few years ago we would have jumped with joy to have them on the field.

  2. With his speed, if he could play, he would have been on the field. Good luck to him. He should have stayed and concentrated on track. I believe it’s just really hard to play 2 sports in college nowadays. Also Kentucky is known for its track stars the last few years.
