If all goes as expected today, Kentucky basketball is going to add a needed player for next season in 6-9 Jordan Burks when he makes his college choice Wednesday.

The former Ole Miss commit is a top 175 player nationally but he led Overtime Elite in scoring at 27.1 points per game last season playing for Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix Ariz.). He shot 40.57 percent from 3-point range and 55 percent overall according to coach Nick Weaver while also averaging 7.5 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 1.4 steals per game.

“He’s a versatile player who can score from all three levels. He’s also a very good defender. He takes a lot of charges and blocks a lot of shots from the off side,” Weaver said. “He’s high energy, talks a lot and is very loud but he’s very, very disruptive on the defensive end.

“In our league, we had a 24-second shot clock, played with a NBA and the 3 is from the international line. He’s used to long 3-pointers and the college line should actually be easier for him.”

The 6-9 forward out of Decatur, Ala., should be ranked higher in Weaver’s opinion based on the way he dominated Overtime Elite that included players likely to be drafted later this month.

“If you just go off his body of work this year, he should be ranked higher but that does not bother him,” Weaver said.
