Going back 20 years to when Rich Brooks was coaching football at Kentucky there has been a need for a bigger, safer indoor practice facility .

Kentucky football has shared an indoor facility with track and other sports but now has a renovated football-only facility without a track around the edge of the field that limited the space football had.

“It is one of a kind. It’s beautiful. There is a ton of space,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said at Media Day. “We had to go in there already this year, yesterday morning.

“Right now we’re still finishing some summer school, so our schedules are a little goofy. We have to go real early in the morning on certain days.

“There’s just a ton of space. The fact that our quarterbacks and receivers can catch balls on the sidelines and not worry about the track. The D-line and O-line can get all the way off the field. There’s a lot of square footage in there. It’s a first class facility.”

Stoops said it was an “honor” to have the names of Brooks and his wife Karen on the indoor field.

‘It puts a smile on my face when I saw that going out there. It’s a wonderful facility,” Stoops said.
