Lania Hite scored four times as Trigg County broke Caldwell County’s hex in the series between the two former district rivals.

Hallie Joiner netted the go-ahead goal as the Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Tigers 5-1 Thursday night at the Trigg Recreation Complex — Trigg’s first win ever over Caldwell.

In 26 previous meetings, the Lady Tigers held a 25-0-1 series advantage. The one tie came in 2012, but Caldwell had won 10 straight since then, including a 3-1 decision last year in Princeton.

The teams battled through an even first half on Thursday, going to the break tied 1-1. But the Lady Wildcats got stronger in the second half as the Lady Tigers appeared to tire — and Trigg created the superior scoring opportunities after the break.

A nifty series of passes culminated with the tiebreaking goal for Trigg. Ultimately, Leiah Hite sent the ball across the front of the net, where Joiner punched it past the keeper to put Trigg up 2-1. That came in the 54th minute.

Leiah Hite picked up another assist just a minute later, with Lania Hite finishing to make it 3-1, and the Lady Wildcats were well on their way to their first win over against Caldwell.

Lania Hite gathered in a long free kick and scored in the 62nd minute to extend the margin to 4-1.

Hite netted her fourth goal just ahead of the final whistle to push the final score to 5-1.

Trigg (2-0) held a 19-11 advantage in shots.

The Lady Wildcats never trailed in the contest. Hite scored her first goal unassisted from about 25 yards out to give Trigg a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.

Harper Ritchey netted Caldwell’s goal in the 37th minute, scoring off a rebound of a Keegan Miller shot to send the teams to the intermission deadlocked.

Caldwell’s girls are now 1-1 this season.

Abbey Gill made 11 saves in the Lady Tiger net.

Caldwell next hosts Christian County on Monday.

Trigg next entertains Union County on Tuesday.
