Caldwell Drops Home Matches with Graves, Todd

Caldwell County is the No. 1 seed for the 7th District volleyball tournament next week, but the Lady Tigers will have to shake off a three-game losing skid to end the regular season.

After dropping a Senior Night contest to Christian County in five sets on Thursday, Caldwell fell to both Graves County and Todd County Central in action Saturday at the CAB gym in Princeton.

The Lady Tigers opened the day with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 setback to Graves County (21-12).
Brylee Butts had five kills and three blocks in the match against the 1st Region school. Benashka Thomas had four kills and a block while Ellie Ramey had three kills and three digs.

Kylee White had 16 assists and a kill while Rylee Thompson had two kills and six digs, and Morgan Aikins added two kills.

T.J. Goodwin had six digs. Anna Giltz had three digs and a kill.

Caldwell then got off to a good start in its next match, taking the first set from Todd County Central (15-17).

However, the visiting Lady Rebels came back to claim a 21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-12 decision.

Aikins led the Lady Tigers with six kills against the 4th Region school while also adding five digs and two aces.

Butts totaled five kills, two blocks and two digs while Benashka Thomas had five kills, a block and three digs, and Ramey had five kills and seven digs.

Thompson had three kills and eight digs. White had 22 assists, seven digs and a kill. Medeline Thomas added two kills.

Goodwin recorded 16 digs. Giltz had five digs and a kill. Tink Clark had seven digs and Mycah Riddle added six digs.

The Lady Tigers will carry a 14-17 record into postseason play.

As the top seed for the district tournament, Caldwell has drawn a bye into the championship game of the tourney and will play Tuesday at 6:00 in Mortons Gap.

Hopkins County Central and Madisonville-North Hopkins will meet in the lone semifinal Monday night.

The Lady Tigers have already earned a berth in the 2nd Region tournament, which Caldwell County will host starting Monday, Oct. 23.
