Vince Marrow admits recruiting quarterback Cutter Boley was “very simple” but he means that in a complimentary way.

“This kid was wanted by a lot of people,” the Kentucky recruiting coordinator said about Boley. “But he’s a Kentucky kid and wanted to play in the state.”

The Lexington Christian quarterback signed with Kentucky Wednesday and then Thursday in Louisville received the Paul Hornung Award from the Louisville Quarterback Club given to the state’s top player.

The 6-5, 205-pound Boley is a consensus four-star recruit and a top 15 quarterback nationally. He completed 565 of 937 passes for 8,331 yards and 82 touchdowns and ran for 17 more touchdowns in his prep career at LaRue County and then Lexington Christian.

Boley chose Kentucky over Florida State, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee but had offers from numerous other schools, including Alabama.

“We signed a top 25 class and Cutter was a big part of that. He can go into any room and relate to anybody. That’s the upbringing from his parents,” Marrow said.

“He will be the face of our program. The kid’s upside is very huge. He’s very humble but anything you have read about this young man is true. We are fortunate to have him. He’s going to do a lot in our community and state. I told him he might be better than (former UK quarterback Tim Couch, a No. 1 overall NFL draft pick) if he just lets this thing grow.”

Marrow told Boley he was very happy he was coming to Kentucky and thanked him for how he handled the recruiting process.

“He’s really been a good young man to recruit. He could have gone to a lot of places. Some kids like attention and like social media. He is well grounded because of his parents, Scott and Mary Beth, who are probably some of the best parents of  any kid I have ever recruited,” Marrow said.

LCA coach Doug Charles told the Louisville Quarterback Club members he always felt the Paul Hornung Award was the “most coveted” of any individual award given to a high school player because of the extraordinary high school, collegiate and NFL careers Hornung had.

“Cutter is a gifted athlete and the good Lord made him 6-5,” Charles said. “He was raised right and does the right things. He is a guy who always carries his own bag, rides the bus home from the games (with the team). After a tough loss he will stop and sign autographs or take pictures. (with fans). Cutter checks all those boxes.

“People always ask me if this guy is real. He is. He will do this award great honor and represent it in the dignity and honor you all would want.”

Boley called it a “great honor” to win the award and thanked teammates and coaches for all they did for him.

“I might be a little biased but I feel I have the best family. They are my biggest fans,” Boley, who had about 20 family members at the ceremony, said. “Mom and dad did not just push me to be the best football player but also to be the best young man I can be.”

  1. I wish Cutter nothing but the best of luck. As good as he obviously is, he will need all the luck in the world. The last 5 recruited QB’s that KY signed hardly ever saw the playing field and eventually transferred out. Take a red-shirt and learn as much as you can; then evaluate your playing chances going into your second year.

If Cutter is as good as they say he is, he’ll be playing in his second year. If he is that good and not playing it’s time to take a good hard look at another school. KY’s record with recruited QB’s is nothing to brag about.

    1. The kid Ky got from GA has two years left on his eligibility. If Cutter can’t give him a run for his money in his second year, no way he is getting on the field of play. Stoops will go to the portal again. That is Stoops modus operandi.

  2. Well folks this is one we need to keep in the bluegrass (AT) any costs. Obviously the physical tools are there. I hope we continue on our current pace recruiting and keep and excellant supporting cast around him to make this work. Couch tools there for sure. Keep our fingers crossed 🤞.
