A big start to the game and a big night from one of the state’s leading scorers led to a big Friday night road win for the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors. Jason Leek hit for 39 points as HCA took a 76-61 win over Portland Christian.

The Warriors hit Portland Christian with a powerful first quarter and then rolled on for the 15-point win. HCA was up 24-7 after the first 8 minutes of the game.

Portland Christian battled back to get the lead down to 10 at 40-30 at the break.

They would get as close as 8 points in the third quarter and cut the Warriors’ lead down to 55-46 heading into the final eight minutes.

But that would be it for the comeback. Heritage Christian opened the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run to put the game away.

In addition to Leek’s 39 points, Layton Giltner had 18 points and 9 rebounds for HCA.

The Warriors improve to 13-11 with the win. HCA has a quick turnaround, as they head off to McLean County Saturday afternoon.
