Justin Newton is a huge University of Kentucky basketball fan. Like most fans, he’s always optimistic about every season and was hoping this could be at least another Final Four season for the Cats.

That’s one reason he’s bringing Kentucky Sports Radio back to Lee’s Famous Recipe in Danville (610 South Fourth Street) Friday.

Shannon Grigsby and Billy Rutledge will broadcast their show live from Lee’s from 9-10 a.m. followed by Ryan Lemond, Drew Franklin, Matt Jones and Grigsby going live from 10 a.m. until noon.

“The city had a great time with it last year when they were here,” Newton said. “We had a really good crowd and it was a fun thing to do for the city and Kentucky fans.

“Every year I plan this I am hoping Kentucky will be 26-2. That has not happened but we have got some momentum back and got some energy back. We are all in love with Cal (coach John Calipari) again.

“And there is also a huge game with Alabama Saturday in Rupp Arena. This just seemed like the perfect time to have KSR back again when I scheduled it.”

Newton said doors will open about 8:30 a.m. and there is plenty of parking next door to Lee’s that will be available for those coming to the radio shows.

Lee’s will offer its regular menu starting at 10 a.m. and Newton plans to treat the KSR crew to chicken tenders, catfish, chicken sandwiches, potato wedges, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet tea and more just like he did last year.

Grigsby — “Shannon The Dude” — told me Monday he was already looking forward to eating at Lee’s again and I can’t blame him for that since it is a regular lunch spot for me and maybe my mother’s favorite restaurant in Danville for the last 40 years or more.

“This team is one of my favorite groups Cal has ever had and I think a lot of fans feel that way,” Newton said. “I think fans still really want to believe in this team and I think we will have another really good crowd turn out for the shows.”
