Avery Wells Leads Caldwell at Invitational of the South

Caldwell County’s track teams made the trip to Draffenville on Saturday for the Invitational of the South meet at Marshall County High School.

Avery Wells claimed the only individual championship of the day for Caldwell.

Wells was first in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 7.5 inches. She also picked up a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 28.29 seconds.

Caldwell’s Addison Middleton-Mobley placed third in the triple jump at 30 feet, 8 inches.

The Lady Tiger 4×400-meter relay team placed fourth in 4:44.65.

The 4×100 relay team was seventh in 55.07 seconds.

Emma Ward placed eighth in the discus at 79 feet, 9 inches.

For Caldwell’s guys, Cooper Mobley placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 4 inches.

Max Heaton took fourth in the triple jump at 39 feet, 11 inches.

The 4×400 relay team placed sixth in 3:53.38 while the 4×200 relay squad was eighth in 1:37.31.

Daniel Laurent finished seventh in the discus at 113 feet, 8 inches.

Caldwell track did have a milestone during the meet, with competitors in the pole vault event for the first time ever. T.J. Goodwin placed eighth in the girls’ competition by clearing 6 feet while Heaton was eighth for the guys at 8 feet.

The Lady Tigers placed seventh in the team standings with 31 points. Marshall County (146 points) edged Calloway County (143) for team honors while Rossview from Clarksville was third with 107 in the 24-team field.

Meanwhile, the Tigers were 11th out of 22 teams in the boys’ competition. Caldwell totaled 22 points. Marshall (137) took first, followed by McCracken County (123) and Paducah Tilghman (63).

Next up for Caldwell is a home quad meet on Friday.
