Fort Campbell’s Maurice Moore turned the Class 1A Region 1 track and field championships into a bit of a personal playground on Saturday at Murray High, racing to individual titles in the 100 and 400-meter races and helping the 4×200 and 4×400-meter relay teams to 1st-place finishes.
Moore blazed to an 11:01 in the 100-meter and couldn’t be caught in the 400-meter with a 50.22, followed by teammate McKenzie Andrews in 2nd with a time of 51.39.
In the 4×200 relay, Moore, Andrews, Mateo Cerritos Gatto, and Ja’Caryous Perryman posted a 1:30.33 to hold off 2nd-place Caldwell County, and Moore, Andrews, Cerritos Gatto, and Samuel Atoubi cruised to a win in the 4×400 with a time of 3:29.85, 12 seconds ahead of Dawson Springs in 2nd.
Cerritos Gatto edged UHA’s Griffin McCoy with a 22.48 to win the 200-meter dash and ran 3rd in the 4×100-meter relay along with Kaden Herrera, Andrews, and Perryman. Ryker Kramer, Andrew Bennett, Andy Cintron, and Jayden Perry finished 3rd in the 4×800 relay, and Perry was 3rd in the 800-meters with a 2:14.28, with Bennett following in 4th.
Perryman was 1st in the long jump with a distance of 21-02, and Leaf Dewitt tied Murray’s Acey Strickland with a 5-11 high jump but lost a jump-off to finish 2nd.
Atoubi posted a 44.87 to run 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles, and Keyshawn Dixon ran 3rd in both the 110-meter (17.54) and 300-meter (45.59), while adding a 5th-place finish in the discus. Tyreek Anthony was 4th in the high jump, Eric Marr finished 4th in the pole vault, and Jacob Cabe was one spot back to round out the Falcons’ top-five showings.
