Trigg County used a seven-run second inning that culminated in a 13-5 win over Lyon County in the 5th District softball semifinals Monday in Smithland.

The win moves the Lady Wildcats into the region tournament for just the fourth time in program history and the first since 2019.

After a wild pitch plated a run for Trigg in the first inning, the Lady Wildcats used three singles, two walks, two hit batters, and a double to put seven on the board in the second inning.

Maddie Smith had two singles and MaKenna Hendricks doubled home a pair of runs.

Lyon County got two runs back in the third inning when Courtney Collins doubled home Olivia Moore and Brystol Forsythe.

Kady Fuller’s second double of the game in the home half of the third inning extended Trigg’s lead to 10-2.

The Lady Wildcats had a shot to end the game via the mercy rule, but Lyon County wouldn’t go quietly into the night.

Emma Brasher doubled home a run in the sixth inning. A wild pitch and Trigg error allowed two more runs to cross the plate to cut the Lady Wildcat lead to 10-5.

Trigg added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Smith and a single by Tember Oliver.

Smith finished with four hits and two runs scored, while Fuller added three this and three RBI. Oliver and Rylee Hendricks also had two hits.

Oliver allowed just one earned run in the circle for the Lady Wildcats. She gave up five hits and issued just one walk.

Collins had two of Lyon County’s five hits. The Lady Lyons season ends with a record of 13-20.

Trigg County (19-15) will play top-seed Livingston Central in Wednesday’s championship game. The Lady Cardinals beat Crittenden County 5-0.

Both teams will advance to next week’s region tournament at Christian County High School. They will be joined by Union County, Henderson County, Caldwell County, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Christian County, and University Heights Academy.
