Kentucky’s football recruiting seems on pace to potentially have its highest ranked recruiting class ever and certainly had more verbal commitments in mid-July than even coach Mark Stoops and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow have been able to gather before.

Not only does Kentucky have 17 commitments, but it has four four-star players in the latest On3 top 300 player rankings — Ohio running back Marquise Davis (64), Frankfort defensive lineman Javeon Campbell (136), Ohio edge rusher Cedric Works (178) and Paducah safety Martels Carter (282).

Four-star receiver Quinton Simmons of Ohio is also a four-star recruit but is not in the top 300.

Kentucky’s class is currently ranked 20th nationally by On3 even though Louisville Male offensive lineman Isaac Sowells Jr. picked North Carolina State over the Cats last week.

UK’s class is ranked 19th by 247Sports with Works 86th nationally and the No. 11 overall edge rusher. Campbell is 109th and the No. 15 overall defensive lineman. Simmons is No. 161 and the 16th best receiver in the rankings while Carter is 223rd overall and the 19th best safety.

  1. Spike surprised me by not signing. If he would have signed we would have the #18 class. Nil money has been keeping recruits closer to home than ever. North Carolina State tho? I don’t get it. I think Stoops wants to sign 20 commits every year. So now they can work on flipping a couple 4* recruits. You have to leave some room for the transfer portal too. I like how we’ve been using the portal. We have the right mix of freshman and transfers. This year will be the year it finally pays off.

  2. We may field his/our best team ever and still end up with 6 or 7 wins. The schedule is just brutal and the ones who we mark as a “W” are desperate and talented teams. We”ll be competitive in all of them – just how the ball will bounce.

    1. The last 2 years we have had back to back 7 win seasons. We had 2 true freshman starting at receiver and absolutely no offensive line 2 years ago. Last year we had no secondary and a terrible rush blocking offensive line. Ray Davis made it to 1,000 yards on his own. After the Florida game the line stopped blocking. We had 2 true sophomores as our wide receivers, which alot of times when a guy has a great freshman year the next year they struggle a little bit because they are running off athletic ability. This year those 2 receivers that have been starting the last 2 years will hit their mark. The game starts slowing down in your junior year because the guys that have been playing against the last 2 years have graduated and moved on. Now they will be competing against the guys that have been watching them compete on the field the last 2 years. Plus we added another receiver who could start for any team in the SEC in Maclin. We have a deep receiver room for Brock to throw too. All them balls that have been bouncing the other way will bounce our way this year. We could have easily won 9 games 2 years ago and last year. Levis got hurt and it destroyed our chances of doing anything 2 years ago. We had Ole Miss beat. We should have beat South Carolina and we should have beat Vanderbilt. So you could say 2 years ago we could have won 10 games with the worst offensive line I’ve ever seen in college football. Last year we were destroying Missouri and then a fake punt or field goal was the momentum they needed and they didn’t look back after that play. We had South Carolina beat but turnovers killed us. So we’ve been close the last couple of years. Guess what? All of our players are back. We upgraded our offensive line. We upgraded at quarterback. Chip will actually have holes to run through. Brown and Key are finally upperclassmen, and our defense is probably going to be the greatest defense we’ve had here in a very long time. 8 wins is the floor for this team. I think 9 wins is going to probably be what we end up with before the bowl game. Realistically I think we can and will win 10 games. We might even get in the playoffs if we can knock off either Ole Miss, Texas, or Georgia. I think we win one of those 3 games to finish 10-2. Louisville has also been elevated from an easy win to a 50/50 game. Brohm has done an incredible job. When we hired Stoops I actually wanted Brohm. I knew he wouldn’t go because he’s Louisville through in through.
