Kentucky offensive lineman Marques Cox admitted that he was looking forward to playing Texas for the first time this season. Texas is coming into the SEC and UK will play at Texas on Nov. 23.
“That will be exciting just with them coming into our conference and being new with everything that’s going on with the 12 teams (in the playoffs) this year,” Cox, a sixth-year player, said at SEC Media Days in Dallas last week. “Just everything new happening this year, that will probably be a pretty cool stadium to play in.”
Cox, a Northern Illinois transfer in his second year at UK, also believes Kroger Field is an “underrated stadium” in the SEC.
“It gets loud. Kentucky fans care about Kentucky sports, period,” Cox said. “It’s a really underrated stadium, and it’s our home stadium. So I do say it’s a really great experience, a really fun experience to be with the Big Blue Nation and to be on Kroger Field.”
Cox also got to explain to SEC Media Days attendees why offensive linemen are often the “most enjoyable” players on the team to interview because they are unfiltered.
“We like to have fun. We got the most gruesome job, but at the same time it don’t get that much shine or anything like that unless one of our teammates gives us a shout-out,” Cox joked. “Shout-out to my teammates for giving us a shout-out.
“We’re unfiltered. We love having fun. It’s a great time when you’re around O-linemen. That’s the best way I can explain it.”

Unfiltered & positioned to be one of the keys to elevate UK to new heights.
I think Barry Pritchett posted UK for end up 4-8 or 8-4 and that is a fair evaluation based on the history of UK losing too many games which UK should have won and not winning enough against opponents that were not elite. There have usually been only 2 or 3 elite teams UK has faxed each year. The others were winnable if UK has not started out in a daze the first quarter! I’m counting on Stoops to have solved that problem as well as not letting Special Teams cost UK any more wins.
I’m very disappointed UK lost a quality kicker to the portal because he never got to play, even after UK had such inconsistent punting!!! Special Teams will make or break UK in 2 or 3 games this season. Having an amazing kickoff returner is awesome, but other areas of ST need shores up!
The Missouri game last year destroyed us. We started out looking like Georgia. Dominating ok both sides of the ball. I think we stopped them on a 3 and out. Then we took the ball down the field and scored. Stopped them again I think they got 1 or 2 first downs and they punted again. We took the ball down the field and scored. It was 14-0 midway through the second quarter. We were moving the ball down the field and had a turnover giving them good field position we stopped them again 3 and out and they faked a punt or field goal I can’t remember but they threw a touchdown when they did, and from that point on they completely dominated us. We didn’t start slow that game. Vs South Carolina we had 3 turnovers on their side of the 50 yard line. Idc who you are with that many turnovers so close to the end zone and we only lost by a touchdown? That is 2 games we could have easily won. Their was one more game that we was close in the whole game and turnovers again destroyed our chances of winning. We need ball protection. Less turnovers and less penalties. We scored a touchdown in the last couple minutes vs South Carolina to either tie it or take the lead, but it was called off for illegal motion by Barion Brown. We have been with a eyelash of beating all these teams. This year we will be much better and these teams are breaking in new starters at nearly every position. The Floor for this team is 8-4. With losses to Georgia, at Texas, Ole Miss at home and Missouri. The ceiling is we win 1 game against Ole Miss at home Texas on the road or Georgia at home. If we can win 1 of those 3 games we will be 10-2 6-2.
