Caldwell’s Girls Go 2-4 at Apollo Summer Slam Down

The Caldwell County Lady Tiger volleyball team played six matches in the competitive Apollo Summer Slam Down Tournament in Owensboro over the weekend.

Caldwell dropped its opener to Owensboro 25-16, 25-15 Friday night then fell to Larue County 25-15, 25-23.

Mycah Riddle had 14 digs in the loss to Owensboro. Rylee Thompson had three kills, five digs and two aces. Kylee White had seven assists, a kill and four digs.

Against Larue, Brylee Butts recorded eight kills and five digs while Thompson had five kills and seven digs. White had 18 assists while Riddle and Morgan Aikins each had 11 digs. Benashka Thomas added five kills.

The Lady Tigers finished pool play Saturday morning with a win, beating McLean County 25-22, 25-6.

Thompson had 10 kills and six digs in the victory. White had 14 assists. Aikins totaled five kills and nine digs. Med Thomas recorded three kills, seven assists and three digs. Riddle had 14 digs.

That put Caldwell in the bronze division for the rest of the tournament.

The Lady Tigers won their next match, defeating Edmonson County 22-25, 25-18, 15-11.

In that match, Thompson had eight kills and five digs. White totaled 21 assists, six digs and six aces. Benashka Thomas added four kills, two blocks, four digs and two aces. Anna Giltz had 15 digs. Chevy McGowan and Med Thomas each had three kills and a block.

Caldwell then lost to Bullitt East, which is ranked 17th in the state. Those scores were 25-17, 25-16.

Thompson had three kills and four digs. White had seven assists while Riddle recorded nine digs. Aikins had two kills and five digs. Benashka Thomas had two kills and a block.

The Lady Tigers dropped their final match against Grayson County 25-18, 25-21.

Thompson recorded seven kills and eight digs in that match. White had 16 assists and six digs. Benashka Thomas recorded five kills. Aikins totaled 14 digs.

Caldwell is now 4-4.

The Lady Tigers will play their first 7th District match of the season Tuesday night at Hopkins County Central.
