A rare matchup between the proud title-aspirant programs, Madisonville-North Hopkins traveled to Central Hardin Thursday night — falling 2-0 in Cecilia.
The Maroons and the Bruins were tied 0-0 at half, before goals from senior Nolan Thomas (two goals, three assists in five games) and junior Connor Hobbs (five goals, four assists in seven games) brought victory to the home squad.
Central Hardin’s keeper, senior Ayden Allen, had eight saves in the clean sheet — his fourth of the season. He’s now averaging 6.1 saves per game, and has allowed only six goals in this first portion of the year.
The winning goal came with 16:37 left in regulation, courtesy of a penalty kick, and a corner with 9:47 left added insurance.
The Bruins moved to 6-1, while the Maroons fell to 6-2 — their only other defeat to the DeSales Colts of the 22nd District in the Sixth Region.
NEXT UP: Madisonville-North Hopkins faces quite the task 4 PM Saturday in Louisville, as it will face currently undefeated and the defending boys soccer state champion St. Xavier (6-0-1). The Tigers have scored 30 goals and allowed just four, with Trenton Kaskocsak (13 points, five goals, three assists), Stone Work (10 points, four goals, two assists) and Reed Newman (seven points, three goals, one assist) leading the way.
Then, they will have a week off, before a Saturday, September 7 doubleheader against Louisville Collegiate and Kentucky Country Day.
