The University Heights Academy are looking every bit the part of a team to be reckoned with in the 2nd Region. The Lady Blazers limited the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers to just two shots, none of them coming in the second half, as UHA picked up a big 7-0 8th District win and taking a big step towards the top seed in the 8th District tournament.
The shutout was the 4th straight of the season for the Lady Blazers who improved to 5-0 on the season.
Kendall Hancock scored early in the match off an assist from Skyler Cantrell to make it 1-0, Hancock scored again at the 33:00 mark, drilling a left-footed shot in front of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
For the half, University Heights outshot Hopkinsville 15 to 2.
Another problem for the Lady Tigers in the half was the loss of Lila Jorgensen, who was injured in a collision with Alyssa Grice with 12:00 left in the half. Jorgensen would not return for the rest of the match.
Things did not get any easier for the Lady Tigers in the second half.
Less than 2 minutes into the second half, Gracie Ausenbaugh scored from right in front of the goal to make it 3-0. Four minutes later, Kendall Hancock crossed a right-footed shot across the front of the net to push the lead to 4-0.
Ninety seconds after that, Alyssa Grice sent a shot towards the net that deflected into the goal off a Hopkinsville player for an own goal and the lead was 5-0.
Gracie Ausenbaugh scored her second goal of the half at 54:00 and the lead grew to 6-0.
Coach Michael Parker began to rotate several reserves into the lineup over the final 26 minutes. At the 77:00, Mayce Brown capped off the scoring for the day with a goal to make it 7-0.
The Lady Blazers get back to action Thursday evening when they host Lyon County.
The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers (4-4) will get back to work Tuesday evening when they host the Caldwell County Lady Tigers.
