The son of a former Caldwell County baseball head coach is the Tigers’ new skipper.

Caldwell County High School announced Monday morning that John H. Stevens has been hired to replace Josh Young as the head of the Tiger baseball program.

“We look forward to continued success as Coach Stevens moves from an assistant role to the head coach,” the school said while announcing the hire.

Stevens has been an assistant at Caldwell the past two seasons.

He is the son of former Tiger head coach Irl Stevens, who guided the Caldwell baseball program from 1975-90, going 165-93-1 over that time.

John H. Stevens is a former Tiger player — part of a long line of Stevenses who have played sports locally, going back to the first football and baseball teams at Princeton High School in the early 1900s.

He also has a son, Drew, who will be a sophomore for the Tigers in the 2025 season.

Stevens replaces Young, who went 46-19 in his two seasons as head coach, including a 7th District championship this past spring and a 2nd Region All A Classic title in 2023.

Young left to take a job closer to his Mayfield home. He is now an assistant football and baseball coach at Graves County.

Caldwell won more games than any other baseball team in the 2nd Region last season, going 27-7.

The Tigers fell in the first round of the 2nd Region tournament to eventual champion Hopkinsville.
