Twice Caldwell County took the lead.

Twice Trigg County tied the contest.

The Tigers and Wildcats played to a 2-2 draw Thursday in Princeton in a match that saw some light rain showers, but not enough to impact the competition.

Caldwell (2-6-2) had the better scoring opportunities in the contest and outshot Trigg 29-11.

But Wildcat goalkeeper Cameron McCormick made 11 saves, including stopping a Caldwell penalty kick in the 47th minute, to keep his squad in the game.

Three other Tiger shots rang off posts, keeping the match tight.

Caldwell took the lead in the 35th minute when Alex Noffsinger threaded a pass ahead to Chase Lantrip, who beat the keeper to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

However, Trigg (1-6-3) drew even on a corner kick with less than 2 minutes left in the half.

Slaton Carter picked up the goal in front of the net with Alex Hurt getting the assist.

Caldwell retook the lead in the 59th minute when Trevaughn Copeland scored off a rebound. McCormick stopped the initial shot from Collin Turmero, but the ball ended up with Copeland, who put a shot into the open right side of the net to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was short-lived, however.

Trigg countered just a minute later.

A free kick by Hurt from just outside the box was initially saved by Caldwell keeper Grayson Harris. But the ball squirted away just far enough for James Garnett to punch it into the net and knot the match at 2-2.

Harris recorded seven saves for the Tigers.

Caldwell now holds a 33-26-6 advantage in the all-time series.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Friday, hosting Paducah St. Mary.

The Tigers next go to Hopkins County Central on Tuesday for a 7th District contest.
