Lucas Rambo pulled off a golfing rarity this year for Hopkins County Central, becoming the first Storm golfer in six years to compete at the state level.

The junior finished in 78th place at Wednesday’s KHSAA State First Round at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club. As one of the first golfers out on the course, he found the putts tough to come by and finished with a score of 99.

The last Hopkins County Central golfer to compete at the state level was Trae Barber in 2018. For Rambo, he advanced out of the region in his first season of competitive golf.

Golfers at state first round need to finish in the top 15 so long as they are not on the three teams with the lowest scores to advance to the two-day championship round.

McCracken County’s Landon Hunt and Greenwood’s Layton Richey tied for the lead with even par 71s while McCracken County, Owensboro, and Taylor County will advance to the championship round next week.
