Lauren Mayes has pulled double duty for Hopkinsville High this fall as she prepares for the Class 2A Region 1 Meet next week.
The Lady Tiger junior has been a four-year member of the Hopkinsville cross country team, qualifying for the state meet three times.
After back-to-back top 20 finishes at the region meet, Lauren placed sixth last year and came in a career-best 51st at the state meet.
She has produced four top-10 finishes in 2024 including her first varsity win at the Madisonville Classic.
In her last race at McCracken County last weekend, she finished in eighth place, covering the 3.1-mile course in 22:28.
Lauren’s personal best time is 21:32 set at Warren East in 2021. She came close to breaking that at Muhlenberg County and has a goal of eclipsing the 21:00 mark this season.
Last year, Lauren and her Lady Tiger teammates brought home a regional runner-up trophy – the first for the program in 44 years. They will be looking to upgrade that to a championship trophy next weekend at Marshall County.
Lauren gave soccer a try this fall, scoring two goals and assisting on four others in 20 games for the Lady Tigers. She proved to be a key component for a Hoptown team that finished as district runner-up.
Once cross country season ends, Lauren will get ready for the spring track and field season looking for a return trip to the state meet in the 3200-meter run where she finished fourth in the region and 13th at the state meet.
