With the Christian County Colonels headed to Mayfield to take on the defending Class 2A champion Cardinals Friday night, you figured it might be a tough trip to War Memorial Stadium for the Colonels. Turned out that was the case.
Mayfield won its sixth straight game Friday night, rolling past the Colonels 44-0 in the regular season finale for both teams. The loss was the third straight for Christian County since their road win at Daviess County.
The Cardinals came out ready to take care of business, putting up 23 points in the first 12 minutes of play. Mayfield added two touchdowns in the second quarter to take the lead to 37-0 at the half.
The second half played out quickly with the running clock in play.
The Mayfield defense limited Christian County’s offense to less than 125 yards for the night. The defense also put points on the board with a 30 yard interception returned.
Mayfield goes to 7-2 on the season and will host Todd County Central in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs next week at War Memorial Stadium.
Christian County falls to 1-9 and will now hit the road for their opening round Class 6A playoff game. The Colonels will be on the road to take on the Central Hardin Bruins. Central is only 2-8, but has won two of its last four games.
