Twenty-five years after his father took the Hopkins County Central Storm to the Sweet 16, Mason Burgett takes over the helm of the program looking to return the team to Rupp for the first time in a quarter of a century.
In getting his team ready for a post-season run, Burgett has put together a schedule that will see his team square off against several of the teams viewed as contenders in the 2nd Region.
Central will officially open the season on the road December 3 against traditional 3rd Region power Muhlenberg County. Other road games this season will include trips to Graves County, Webster County, McLean County, Henderson County, Union County, and Hopkinsville.
The Storm’s home schedule will include matchups against Ohio County, McLean County, Webster County, Trigg County in the Kentucky 2A sectional, Union County, Hopkinsville, University Heights, Hancock County, and Graves County.
This year’s run of the 7th District against Madisonville-North Hopkins, Caldwell County, and Dawson Springs looks like one of the toughest district schedules in several years.
Hopkins County Central will also play in a couple of holiday events. The Storm will take part in the St. Mary Christmas tournament and in the Stewart County Christmas Classic.
The preseason schedule has the Storm going to Apollo on November 21 and hosting St. Mary on November 25.
