Hopkins County Central played like a team that wanted to show their former coach just how good they were. Trigg County did not play the same way.
In a matchup that saw two coaches competing against their former teams, Hopkins County Central blitzed the Wildcats 100-35 on Friday in Mortons Gap.
The Storm shot 67% from the field as Trigg County did not have a defensive answer for the Storm. Hopkins Central outscored the Wildcats 72-16 in the paint and hit a remarkable 38-49 shots inside the arc.
The Storm used a 21-3 first-quarter run to build a 27-8 advantage after one quarter and led 61-24 at halftime.
Most of the damage was inflicted by Hopkins Central’s press that forced Trigg County into 37 turnovers that resulted in 61 Storm points.
Trigg’s defense managed just 15 stops the entire game.
Fifteen players scored for Hopkins Central, led by Cohl Hoard’s 16 points. Davonyae Butcher added 14 points and 5 steals, and Devante Jagoe had 10 points.
Landon Swann was the lone Wildcat to reach double figures. The sophomore hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. Trigg County was playing without its leading scorer Davaree Gude, who missed the game due to sickness.
Trigg County last gave up 100 points in the district championship game to Lyon County last year, a 100-50 loss.
The 65-point margin of defeat was Trigg County’s second most in school history, second only to a 124-51 loss to Elkton in 1956.
