A first-half deficit proved too much to overcome for the Todd County Central boys’ basketball team on Thursday in a 61-48 loss to Monroe County in the 4th Region All ‘A’ semifinals.
Trailing by eight after the first quarter, the Rebels managed only three points in the second frame to face what would be an insurmountable 16-point halftime margin.
Conner Holder knocked down a pair of three-pointers on the way to seven early points for the Rebels, but Brison Nuckols connected on three shots from behind the arc and Wade Carnahan chipped in five points for a 22-14 Monroe County lead.
John Ross Cardwell scored eight of his 11 points in the third quarter for Todd Central and Hunter Johnson added four to help the Rebels outscore the Falcons 19-16.
Todd Central’s Antavion Shemwell connected on a pair of three-pointers in the fourth, but Nuckols scored nine to finish with a game-high 22 points and help Monroe County hold on for the win.
Cardwell scored 11 to lead the Rebels and Johnson finished with 10.
Wade Carnahan finished with 14 to join Nuckols in double figures for the Falcons.
Todd Central dropped its eighth in a row to slip to 1-14 ahead of a trip to Hopkinsville on Monday.
