Travis Perry Answering the Call of Backup Point Guard

Kentucky freshman Travis Perry shared one of the New Year’s resolutions he and some teammates made.

“I think the consensus of a lot of guys was a pretty similar one and it was to get more in the Bible, whether it’s reading a verse a day, trying to get through the New Testament or Old Testament in the year, or something like that,” Perry said.

“So I feel like those were good resolutions. We’re a good, good group of guys. I think we’re gonna hold each other accountable for them so those will be good for us.”

Perry also continues to be good for Kentucky in his limited role backing up point guard Lamont Butler while Kerr Kriisa is out with his foot injury. Perry hit a 3-pointer in the 106-100 win over Florida and did not have a turnover in 7 1/2 minutes.

“The last two games he has played 21 minutes with no turnovers,” Kentucky coach Mark Pope said after the Florida win. “He is going to be a terrific player. He and Trent (Noah) and Collin (Chandler) are getting better every single day.

“With Kerr out, TP is super important to us. He was plus eight in limited minutes (against Florida) and that is hard to do.”

Perry played six minutes in the loss at Georgia — and did not have a turnover. He hit his only shot and grabbed one rebound.

Mississippi State’s overall depth in tonight’s game and the Bulldogs’ physical play likely means Pope will need “TP” to provide more minutes of solid relief for Butler to keep him ready for a late-game push for the Cats.

      1. He has already. Had minutes in the non conference games. He’s just young and needs to develop a little more before taking minutes away from an older player.

    1. I agree. He can get into a rhythm if he takes a few shots. The limited minutes don’t give him a lot of chances to shoot, but he’s making the most of his playing time.

I’d like to see him in with Butler instead of Jaxson
      For some of Jaxson’s minutes.

  1. Trent need to get some minutes, he’s can help this team, and Travis the more minutes he gets the better he gets

  2. Play Noah, Chandler, and Perry more. You gotta use what you got because those 3 guys are your future. If given more minutes the 3 of those guys will be better positioned as veterans to help lead the team next year. There not one and dones, but players who will stay 4 years. Let’s get back to the basics of what made CBB exciting years ago before one year wonders and the carpetbaggers, aka transfer portal. What a mess the NCAA idiots create to keep their sorry rear ends in a cushy job. Disgraceful!!!

    1. If it were not for the transfers, we would not have a team, have you forgotten allready that hog head Cal, took the team with him? I am very grateful for this great bunch of older kids coach Pope put together FROM THE PORTAL, MIND YOU😊. And as much as I love the three you mentioned, coach Pope is playing the right ones.

  3. Coach is doing just fine with the freshmen. They have a role to play, and they are ready when need and opportunity come calling. This could be a very special season, but let’s not give it away just to play home town kids. Let them grow naturally, it will pay off for the team and their careers. Travis is the point guard of the future….and that may be another year away. Chill BBN, and enjoy what we got!!

    1. I agree just let Coach do his job please he is doing a lot better than I thought so just let him do his job keep up the great work Coach Pope thank you for making the year exciting.

  4. I like how Pope is handling everything about this team. The freshmen will come along. I can remember when freshmen never got to play and things worked out fine. These freshmen aren’t ready to take valuable minutes from the upper classmen.

  5. I think Perry is good for like 3 minutes here and there but that’s it. Chandler has shown me nothing except he’s very bad on defense he’s gotten beat by everyone he’s tried to gaurd and missed almost every shot he’s taken. Noah should get more minutes especially if Butler, Robinson are not hitting 3’s.. He can come off the bench and hit a 3 almost immediately.. Butler has to Start taking more 3’s and less attacking the rim

  6. I agree with how coach pope is handling this team Travis is a all around good player and I believe he will be ready for a bigger role next season he can score from anywhere on the court and doesn’t turn the ball over and he is definitely a team player these freshman will get the job done next year as sophomores I believe pope is going to get Kentucky back to winning championships again cal killed us with his one and done hi Cats
