Maroons Claim 4th Place at Region One Swimming Championship

Madisonville-North Hopkins sophomore Sy Soriano qualified for the state first round in one event and will wait and see in two other events following Saturday’s performance at the Region One Championship at the Rick Cohn Aquatic Center in Hopkinsville.

Soriano qualified for the state first round with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.70 seconds. He was also third in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.64 seconds and will likely qualify in that event as well.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of JD Brown, Camden Crowley, Jaden Gonzalez, and Sy Soriano came in third place in 1:50.72. They were also fourth in the 400-yard free relay in 4:08.31.

The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state first round on Feb. 8 at Bowling Green High School. The next ten times in the event from Regions 1-3 will also qualify

JD Brown was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.13 seconds and was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.99.

Camden Crowley was seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:24.48 and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Jaden Gonzalez was 16th in the 50-yard freestyle in 34.04 and 17th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:19.40.

As a team, Madisonville finished in fourth place with 141 points. Murray won the region title with 406 points followed by Henderson County (301) and Fort Campbell (245).
