Lady Tigers Roll Into 8th District Championship Game

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers are headed back to the 8th District championship game and another title matchup against the Christian County Lady Colonels. Hopkinsville went on a huge first half run to settle things early Monday night as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 74-37 win over the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons.

The win marks the 42nd straight in the series for the Lady Tigers. The last Fort Campbell win came back in the 2005 8th District tournament.

Fort Campbell led once in the game, that coming at 3-2. The game was tied early at 2-2 and 6-6. With the game tied at 6-6, Hopkinsville went on a 10-0 run to go up 16-6 and kept rolling from there.

The Lady Tigers then closed out the first quarter with another 10-0 run to take a 26-8 lead. Alicia Davis got off to a roaring start for Hopkinsville, scoring 11 points over the first 8 minutes of the game.

Hopkinsville came out to open the second quarter and promptly went on a 19-4 run to blow the lead out to 45-12. That run completed a 39-6 stretch in the first half that effectively decided the game. The lead would be 48-16 as the two teams headed off to the break.

A big half for Hopkinsville’s guard combo of Lashanti Wilson and Alicia Davis. The duo combined to score 31 points in the first half, 18 from Davis and 13 from Wilson.

The Lady Tigers scored four quick points to open the second half and bring the running clock into play for the rest of the game. The third quarter ended with Hopkinsville leading 62-24.

Reserves saw all of the action over the final eight minutes for the Lady Tigers as they rolled on to the win and into Thursday night’s district championship game.

Alicia Davis led the Lady Tigers with 21 points. Right behind her was Lashanti Wilson with 20. Amani Pizana just missed a double-digit night with 8 points. TaRia Sharber and Kaveyah White added 6 points each.

Playing in the final game of her Fort Campbell career, Rosella Rajj scored 20 points to pace the Lady Falcons. A’mari Grimsley finished her night with 10 points.

Hopkinsville improves to 10-11 with the win and advances on to the 8th District championship game for the 10th straight year. Awaiting the Lady Tigers is top-seed Christian County. The Lady Colonels won the regular season between the two teams 57-37.

Fort Campbell, which took some big steps forward this season, ends the year at 8-12.

  1. Good luck Lady Tigers to finish out the year!! What a turn around for the Lady Falcons. Congratulations to their coaching staff as well. I would be interested to know more how Ft Campbell is making changes. Is it new girls? New coach?. Well done to all!
