Kentucky coach Mark Pope played in two Southeastern Conference Tournaments as a player at Kentucky and said the Wildcats’ 95-93 overtime win over eventual national champion Arkansas in 1995 at the Georgia Dome ranks as his favorite memory.

“(That game) will forever be one of the most special games in my life,” Pope recalled Thursday. ”I think we had lost at their place on a last-second shot that we missed. We got down 17 during the game (and came back and won). Those (games) are special.”

The Razorbacks defeated the Wildcats earlier that season, 94-92 in Fayetteville before Kentucky gained revenge in Atlanta.

”Those are the types of games that let you walk into a room different,” Pope said. “That’s what I wish for my guys and they’ve been through it — they did it against Duke. They did it against Gonzaga. They’ve had a bunch of moments where things look really bad and they just as a group just pick themselves up.

“That’s what makes you walk into a room different for the rest of your life because you know that if things go wrong, you can fix them. That’s the details of that game that are super special.”
