
A pair of winning streaks are still alive for the Caldwell County Tiger baseball team.
Scott Cortner allowed just one unearned run on five base hits Thursday as the Tigers rolled to an 18-1 7th District win in four innings at Hopkins County Central.
It’s the fifth-straight victory for Caldwell after a season-opening loss last week at Paducah Tilghman.
It’s the 20th-straight win for the Tigers against the Storm.
An eight-run third inning gave Caldwell an 11-0 lead.
Hopkins Central (2-5 overall, 0-2 district) got its run in the bottom of the third.
But Caldwell (5-1, 2-0) responded with a seven-run fourth to end the game early.
Cortner (2-0) struck out six while allowing five hits and one walk.
Offensively, Ari Wells was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Westin King was 2-for-3 and drove in two more.
Derek Wilson finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in while Luke Parker was 2-for-4 and knocked in two. Channing Puckett also went 2-for-4.
Cortner had a double while Collin Whittington, Drew Stevens and Brody Kirk each singled. Kirk had three RBIs.
The Tigers grabbed the lead early with a three-run first inning.
Gaige Brasher and Tristan Schmaltz each doubled for Hopkins Central. Sawyer Allen, Andrew Knowles and Levi Stanley had singles.
Caldwell returns to action on Friday with a trip to Union County.
Hopkins Central plays at home again Friday against Crittenden County.
