
Will Alexander played on the last Trigg County team to beat Henderson County on the baseball diamond. After Wednesday, he can now say he’s the only person to beat them as both a player and a coach.
Aidon Butts spun a two-hit masterpiece to lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 win over the Colonels at the Trigg Rec Complex.
The Wildcat hurler and Dyersburg State signee allowed a second-inning double to Brody Belt and a fifth-inning double to Hunter Evans. An error allowed Evans to score Henderson’s lone run of the game three pitches later.
Butts (3-0) struck out nine and walked just two in lowering his season ERA to 0.52.
Trigg County got on the board in the third inning when AJ Bell and Bentley Reynolds singled. Bell advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a Butts sacrifice fly.
In the fourth inning, Haydon Reynolds reached on an error and advanced to third on the first of two doubles by Slaton Carter.
Jon Humphries followed with an RBI single, and James Garnett hit a sacrifice fly to extend Trigg’s lead to 3-0.
Butts scored Trigg’s fourth run of the game in the fifth inning when he walked, went to second on a sacrifice, and scored from third on a Henderson error.
Cole Thompson (2-3) took the loss for Henderson County, who saw a four-game winning streak snapped as they slipped to 6-8.
Trigg County’s record evens at 7-7. The win was Trigg’s second-ever over Henderson County and the first since 2017 when Alexander was a senior. It was the first meeting between the schools in seven years.
The Wildcats will play at Hopkins County Central on Friday.
