Andreya Flores moved to Lexington when her boyfriend, Ansley Almonor, designed to transfer from Fairleigh Dickinson to play basketball at the University of Kentucky last season.

Flores, a California native, and Almonor met in college. She was a softball player who started 128 games from 2022-24 who hit .286 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs during her career. She also had a.985 fielding percentage. However, she injured her knee at the end of her junior season. She learned her “meniscus had disintegrated” and rather than hoping a major surgery would let her keep playing she opted to end her career.

“We met in our sophomore year. We have had (weight) lift at 6 a.m. My team was in one room and his team was in the other. We were right across from each other. He texted me and we started hanging out,” she said.

Not only is he from New York and Flores from the west coast, but she is 5-foot-2 (on a good day) and he is 6-foot-7.

“It was not the easiest decision to come to Lexington with him. My parents were very supportive and knew I couldn’t be at home after my softball career ended. Being around Ansley and the people around him in Kentucky was the ideal situation,” she said. “Once I was injured, I wanted to continue to be on my own.”

Andreya Flores and Ansley Almonor met three years ago at Fairleigh Dickinson University where they both were athletes and she came with him to Lexington.

She finished her Bachelor of Arts in Communications degree at Fairleigh Dickinson a semester early online and graduated Cum Laude. Flores is a communications and marketing specialist who has worked as a content coordinator for Best Version Media and now she wants to honor middle school, high school and college graduates in North Lexington Living magazine.

“I love writing about families and have got to connect a lot of families of different demographics for the magazine and learning where they came from and ended up in the same place as me who were excited to see themselves in our magazine,” Flores, who has also worked as a daycare teacher at Easterseals Bluegrass in Lexington where she helped special needs children, said.

“Now I want to honor graduates and I am hoping to get as many to contact me as I can. I want to get their stories in the upcoming issue and share their future plans.”

She can be reached on X at @andreyaflores21or on Instagram. Flores can also be contacted via email at andreyaflores@bestversionmedia.com.

“I’ve loved being part of the magazine because it helped Ansley and I connect more with the Lexington area. Neither of us are from here, so it was a great way to connect with the community and now I want to connect as many graduates as I can with the community,” she said.
