The Trigg County Lady Wildcats very nearly pulled off what arguably could have been the biggest win in a long time Tuesday evening. McCracken County’s Lilly Hamilton drove in the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the 8th inning as the Lady Mustangs held on for a 5-4 win on their home field.
The game had been a tight battle from beginning to end as the Lady Wildcats fought the defending 1st Region champions literally down to the game’s last play.
The Lady Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single from Jayden Visingardi and a fielder’s choice from EmmaLee Futrell that scored Lexi Valentine.
McCracken County came right back with a pair of runs to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Mustangs added single runs in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the fifth to move out to a 4-2 lead.
Kady Fuller began the Lady Wildcat comeback with a solo shot to right with one out in the top of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Jayden Visingardi led off the inning with a single and then advanced to second base on the throw. EmmaLee Futrell moved her over to third base. Visingardi then scored on a ground out to even the game at 4-4 and set the stage for the extra-inning finish.
Livia Breckel and Kady Fuller led Trigg County with two hits each for the game. McCracken County outhit the Lady Wildcats 9 to 8 for the night.
Tember Oliver went the distance in the circle, giving up five runs, four of them earned, on 9 hits, striking out three and walking three.
