Centre College Athletics will hold its third annual David Jones Golf Scramble July 26 at Old Bridge Golf Club outside Danville.
“We want to make this event special for the Jones family again,” said Centre College women’s soccer coach Jay Hoffman.
Jones was 36 years old when he passed away on Sept. 6, 2022, following a brief illness. He was the head men’s golf coach at the time of his death but had done a variety of jobs with Centre athletics after joining Centre in the fall of 2012 as an external relations intern. His other jobs ranged from equipment manager to associate director of athletic facilities and operations.
During his time as special projects coordinator he oversaw several key facility additions to the Centre athletics program.
After one year at Centre, he became the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach under Bruce Brown. Jones became interim head golf coach for the 2016 spring season and the men’s team finished with a top-25 national ranking. He became the permanent men’s head coach in 2019.
“David was a giver—truly a person that sought to make others comfortable, even at his own disadvantage,” Centre athletics director Brad Fields said at the time of Jones’ passing. “He inspired me to be a better leader and a better person. He loved impacting students. Whether it was helping with laundry, event management or coaching, David made students light up.”
Jones’ wife, Kotey, and her three children — Kinzley (9), Kevin (5) and Kyndall — will receive all proceeds from the event.
Cost is $500 per team. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
To register a team, email jay.hoffman@centre.edu (please provide the name of the players playing and an email contact for the team leader). Those who would like to provide a door prize can also email Hoffman.
Sponsorships are available for $100 by emailing montecress5@gmail.com.
All checks should be payable to Kinzley Jones.
