Kentucky point guard Jaland Lowe could be described by some as a gym rat because he loves playing basketball and went to the gym at an early age with his father, Marland, a successful basketball coach and mentor in Texas.

“I tell people all the time I love basketball, but I also love not playing basketball,” said Lowe. “There’s a good balance. I work hard every day, but there’s days that I don’t want to go to the gym but that I got to go to the gym still. I feel like that’s just natural for everybody. You don’t want to go every day but you know you have got stuff to do, so you go.”

When he was young, though, no one had to force him to go to the gym with his father when he would coach/work out players.

“When I was a kid, it was natural to go (to the gym). I wanted to be there every second of the day. I dribbled (a basketball) in the house. My mom would get on me to stop drilling the ball in the house,” Lowe said. “But, you know, it’s still the same today.

“I love being in the gym. It’s the only thing that’s on my mind. I don’t really focus on it too much. I got too much going for me outside of basketball. So I focus on what I need to do.”

Away from basketball, he likes video games, especially Fortnite.

“I feel like I am a big movies and TV show type of guy, but then some people around campus might just catch me on a walk,” Lowe said. “I like to just go walk and enjoy the scenery. Even when I first got here (in the summer) and it was so hot that everybody else was complaining, I liked to just go walk and enjoy the scenery. That’s just me.”

  1. Hopefully he will be able to take the floor on Tuesday night. Sore leg or not, there is no way Aberdeen misses the Louisville game.

  2. Jaland, you sound like a young man that any parent would love to have. Grounded and level-headed. Please let the gods be with us and have him back soooooon. Good luck with your rehab. Same with Aberdeen! And will we ever see Quaintance?????? GO CATS!
