Landon Higdon’s top 10 finish paced the Webster County Trojans at the Kentucky Beef Council Class 2A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Lexington.
The junior finished in sixth place by traversing the 3.1-mile course at the Kentucky Horse Park in 16:33.
Covington Catholic’s Joe Mayer won the race in 15:44.
Higdon’s finish is the best for a Webster County runner at state in three years. Layden Wagoner, who now runs at the University of Southern Indiana, finished fifth in 2022.
It was one of two top-25 finishes for the Trojans as senior Maddox Hibbs closed out his career with a 23rd-place finish in 17:25.
Efrain Juan came in 65th place in 18:25, and Liam Farris was 82nd in 18:50.
Eli Stone captured a 112th place finish in 19:22, and Daan Wiley ran a 20:06 to finish in 160th place — .23 seconds ahead of teammate Harley Velaquez in 161st.
Webster County placed eighth with 259 points, 14 points behind Region 1 winner Union County, which was seventh.
