Trigg County Claims Region Cheer Title (w/PHOTOS)

For the first time since the Kentucky High School Athletic Association sanctioned competitive cheerleading over a decade ago, Trigg County has won a region championship.

Trigg won the All-Girls Small Division on Saturday at McCracken County High School, edging second-place Lyon County by three points.

The All-Girls Small Division is required to have at least five cheerleaders competing, but no more than 15.

Trigg County has competed in the Game Day Small Division the past three years and twice missed qualifying for state by one place. Trigg County was the regional runner-up in the All-Girls Large Division in 2014 and 2016.

The cheer team will compete in the state competition on Dec. 12-13 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.

The KHSAA sanctioned cheer starting with the 2012-13 season. Before that, the Kentucky Association of Pep Organization Sponsors (KAPOS) held regional and state cheer competitions. Trigg County won back-to-back KAPOS region titles in 1999 and 2000 and won the 2000 KAPOS co-ed state championship at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
