The Todd County Central Lady Rebels went into their game against Franklin-Simpson looking to bounce back from a loss in the 4th Region All A Classic to Clinton County. They were not able to do that, as a slow start to the game played a big role in their 54-36 loss to the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Rebels scored just four points in the first quarter of the game, with their only field goal being a three from Madelyn Ballard. Franklin-Simpson went up with an eight-point quarter, although they did not fully capitalize on the slow start from Todd.
The Lady Wildcats’ Allye Pennington was able to get hot from three in the second with three made shots from beyond the arc, which played a big role in them outscoring the Lady Rebels 14-11.
Todd Central had a much better quarter than they did in the first, but that did not stop them from going down 22-15 at the half.
A lot of fouls were called in the third, and it led Franklin-Simpson to attempt 11 free throws in the period. That slowed down the quarter, as well as Todd’s improvement, and they scored just nine in the third.
Todd was down 33-24 going into the fourth, which is a very manageable deficit. But the Lady Wildcats were able to explode with a 21-point fourth, and this was the deciding factor that led them take the game 54-36.
Daymea Garrett led the Lady Rebels in scoring with 10 points, and she was able to make a couple of shots from beyond the arc. Kathryn Ballard came up just short of double-digit points with nine of her own.
This is the 14th straight time the Lady Rebels have fallen to the Lady Wildcats, and they will get a chance to end that streak when they once again face Franklin-Simpson on January 30.
But for the time being, their sights will be set on their next game against Greenwood on January 13. That game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Greenwood High School in Bowling Green, KY.
