The Christian County Lady Colonels played host to Todd County Central in what was the final regular season home game that they will ever play before they combine with Hopkinsville High School. They ended off with a bang, as they were able to get the best of the Lady Rebels 83-25.
Christian County started off the game hot with a quick 9-0 run to that forced a timeout from Todd Central. Anaysia Bagwell hit a three-pointer right out of the timeout to make it 12-0, and the run extended all the way to 18-0 to force another timeout.
Ja’Mya Kay ended the Lady Colonel run with just over two and a half minutes left, and Daymea Garrett was able to drain a shot from beyond the arc. But that did not stop Christian County from taking a commanding 30-5 lead after the first eight minutes.
After that, 10 points from Bagwell and the team being able to force their fair share of turnovers led to Todd Central being down 47-9 lead going into the half.
The Lady Rebels were able to make five three-pointers in the second half, two of them coming from Garrett, but those were the only field goals they were able to score in the third and fourth quarters.
Meanwhile, the Lady Colonels kept pouring it on, leading to the team winning their final regular season home game ever, as well as their fourth game in a row.
This is now the 13th time in a row that Christian County has beaten Todd County Central, as the last win the Lady Rebels were able to get in the all-time series was back in December of 1998.
Bagwell led the team in scoring with an impressive 27 points, a lot of which came on the fast break after some solid team defense. The other Lady Colonel to get into double-digits was Carliah Hobson with 10 points, eight of which she got in the first quarter.
Todd Central’s leading scorer in the game was Garrett with nine, all of which came from beyond the arc. Kay was also able to contribute seven points of her own over the course of the game.
They will be looking to help their team bounce back and snap their losing streak in their next game against South Warren on Thursday, February 19. This will be the second-to-last game of the regular season for the Lady Rebels, and will tip off at 6 p.m. at Todd County Central High School.
As for the Lady Colonels, they will be hoping to win their fifth in a row on Thursday, February 19, against Logan County. That will be the final regular season game in program history, and is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. at Logan County High School.
