For Trigg County senior Madi Moser, the path to cheering at the collegiate level was never just about stunts, routines, or competition days.
It was about faith. It was about family. And most of all, it was about learning how to keep going when life became difficult.
Moser reached a memorable milestone on Thursday as she signed to continue her cheerleading career at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.
For Moser, the decision to choose Kentucky Wesleyan came down to something deeper than just a program or a campus visit.
“It was the atmosphere there. It just felt like a home,” Moser said. “It didn’t feel like it was somewhere it wasn’t supposed to be. So I feel like that’s where God has called me to go.”
That sense of calling helped guide Moser through one of the most emotional and challenging seasons of her high school career.
This past year, Moser and her Trigg County teammates battled through obstacles on and off the mat to put together one of the most memorable seasons in program history. The Lady Wildcats captured a KHSAA Region cheer title and advanced to the final round of UCA Nationals for the first time in school history.
But behind the accomplishments was a season filled with adversity.
Moser’s mother, Haley, stepped into the role of head coach midway through the season, creating a unique dynamic that allowed her to witness her daughter’s journey from two perspectives — both as a coach and as a parent. Madi also experienced the loss of her grandfather, one of her biggest supporters.
Through it all, Haley said her daughter never stopped showing up.
“She showed up every single day,” she said. “Not many people get the chance to see both sides. I got to see the hard work in the gym, but I also saw the tears, the doubt, and the way she always found a way to bounce back. As a coach, I’m proud of the athlete she’s become, but as her mom, I’m even more proud of the person she is.”
Instead of allowing setbacks to pull her away from her goals, Moser said the difficult moments only strengthened her resolve and prepared her for the next chapter of life.
“I feel like it set me up for where I don’t give up when I get older because this year I could have given up, but I didn’t because I knew this is what I wanted to do and I didn’t want to stop cheering,” Moser said.
While Moser’s next stop will be Kentucky Wesleyan, she already has her sights set on a future that could bring her back home.
She plans to major in elementary education and hopes to return to Trigg County one day.
“I hope to major in elementary education, and then I hope to come back to Trigg County and teach and be a cheer coach,” Madi said.
