One big inning was all the Livingston Central Lady Cardinals needed Monday night. Livingston scored 17 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 17-0 3-inning win over the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers in the opening round of the All A Classic 2nd Region softball tournament in Smithland.
The win moves Livingston Central into Tuesday night’s second semifinal in Marion against the Caldwell County Lady Tigers, who advanced through a bye after Heritage Christian withdrew from the tournament.
Lady Cardinal freshman Lillian Polk gave up just two hits in her three innings of work in the circle to lead the way for Livingston Central.
The game was 0-0 going into the bottom of the second and then the roof fell in on the Lady Panthers. Fifteen of the fist sixteen batters in the bottom half of the second reached base safely for the Lady Cardinals. By the time the avalanche had subsided, Dawson Springs was down 17-0.
Polk then set the Lady Panthers down in order in the top of the third to end the game.
Irelynn Burns had a big night for Livingston Central, going 3-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Hadley Hargrove was 1-2 with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored.
Dawon Springs’ two hits came from Alieah Cook and Miley Lowe.
In the circle, Lillian Polk went three innings, giving up no run on two hits, striking out two, and walking none.
